The sentence
Receipt Folder is the only receipt-tracking app that is 100% private, 100% free, and works everywhere you already are — on your iPhone, iPad, and Mac, without accounts, subscriptions, or cloud OCR.

What makes it different
- Return Mode. A fullscreen, in-store view with the receipt, barcode, and policy — no other app does this.
- Nothing leaves your device. OCR is Apple Vision. Sync is your iCloud, not ours. We don't have a server.
- Proof-of-return capture. When you mark an item returned, snap the return-counter receipt and item photo. Protects you against disputes.
- Email receipts, parsed on device. Share any digital receipt from Mail — templated parsers for Amazon, Apple, and Best Buy; on iOS 26, an Apple Intelligence fallback handles every other retailer. Nothing leaves the device.
- Household sharing. Opt-in, per-receipt. Your spouse sees only what you share, through CloudKit — not through us.
- Editorial design. Cream paper, serif type, perforations, monospace metadata. Looks like a printed almanac, not a SaaS app.

Why this, why now
Every app in this category is a subscription product owned by a company with a cloud, a customer database, and a growth target. SimplyWise costs $24–30 a year. Shoeboxed costs $144. Both have hundreds of one-star reviews complaining about surprise charges, disappearing receipts, and slow support. Receipt Folder is the opposite bet: a single developer, no server, no pricing page, polished iOS-native design — built because the best way to track your receipts is with an app that has no interest in any of them.
About the developer
Honorius M. Neogy is an independent iOS developer based in Brooklyn, NY. He built Receipt Folder after losing $340 to a missed return window on a monitor from Best Buy. He writes at neogy.dev and talks about software craft and the economics of indie apps.
